About the artist:  John Behling (b. 1929) earned his way through college at The Ohio State University doing social work.  After serving two years in the Army, he spent some time in Mexico City College taking art classes where he discovered the allure of watercolor painting.  He went back to school to finish up a degree in social work and then earned a PhD in sociology.  After briefly teaching in Illinois, he was offered a teaching position at The Ohio State University’s College of Social Work in 1964 and became a full professor in 1980.  Throughout this time, he was taking classes in art and making art.  

Behling retired from Ohio State University in 1985 and has been painting ever since.  His award-winning work has been juried into many exhibitions.  Behling is an active member of the South Eastern Ohio Watercolor Society, the Central Ohio Watercolor Society, an associate member of the Ohio Watercolor Society, and is active in numerous other art organizations. He teaches painting to various groups.  His paintings are held in private and corporate collections.
